PFA Board Founders Selected

Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru and Venezuela join the PFA board to promote the development and growth of pickleball.

January 25th, 2024, Toronto, Canada – In a significant move to expand the footprint of pickleball across the Americas, the Pickleball Federation of the Americas (PFA) is excited to announce that Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru, and Venezuela have officially joined its board. This expansion underscores the PFA’s commitment to promoting the development and growth of pickleball throughout the continent.

The inclusion of these new member countries marks a milestone for the PFA, furthering its vision to establish pickleball as a major sport across North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. Each new member brings unique cultural and strategic insights that are vital for the sport’s growth and accessibility in diverse communities.

“I am thrilled to welcome Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru, and Venezuela to our federation,” said Gary Schwartz, Chair and President of the PFA. “Their involvement is a testament to the growing appeal of pickleball and its potential to connect people across different cultures and regions.”

The PFA, established as a non-profit corporation, continues to work towards:

  • Encouraging the development of pickleball in the Americas, including program development, administration, governance, and communications.
  • Fostering a welcoming and accessible sport culture that promotes social connections and community.
  • Organizing continental championships and other major events.
  • Supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion within pickleball across the Americas.
  • Ensuring pickleball’s evolution as a safe sport, with a commitment to fair play and equal treatment.
  • Advocating for integrity in competitions, anti-doping efforts, and the prevention of competition manipulation.
  • Promoting the medical care and health of athletes participating in PFA competitions.
    Serving as the official continental federation for pickleball in the Americas.

With these new additions, member countries of the PFA will benefit coordinating sanctioned tournments as well as from increased resources, including localizing official playing rules, coaching and officiating materials, and comprehensive guidelines for federation operations.

The PFA eagerly anticipates the vibrant future of pickleball in the Americas, as it welcomes these new members and embraces the opportunities that lie ahead.
