Country Team Selection Process Guidelines


The Pickleball Federation of the Americas (PFA) is dedicated to promoting the sport of pickleball across the Americas in a manner that upholds the highest standards of fairness, inclusivity, and ethical conduct. The following guidelines are established to ensure that the selection process for national teams representing their countries in regional events is conducted in a manner that is transparent, fair, and adheres to the core values of the PFA.

1. Objective Criteria for Selection

  • Skill Level and Performance: Athletes should be evaluated based on their skill level, competitive performance in sanctioned events, and overall contribution to the team dynamics.
  • Ranking and Records: Consideration should be given to official rankings, match records, and recent performances in national and international competitions.
  • Physical Fitness and Health: Candidates must meet specific fitness and health standards to ensure they can compete effectively and safely.

2. Selection Committee

  • Each official member country shall establish a Selection Committee responsible for team selection.
  • The committee should be comprised of individuals with expertise in pickleball, including but not limited to experienced coaches, former athletes, and sports administrators.
  • Committee members must not have conflicts of interest, and should disclose any potential biases.

3. Transparent and Documented Process

  • The selection process should be documented and made available to all potential candidates.
  • Criteria for selection must be clearly stated and communicated in advance.
  • The process for addressing grievances and appeals should be established and made known to all participants.

4. Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination

  • All eligible athletes must have an equal opportunity to be considered for selection.
  • Selection decisions must be free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, or any other irrelevant factor.

5. Development and Inclusion
